Welcome to Noah's House

Hello lovely Q2 family! I pray that everyone is feeling whole . . . mentally, spiritually and physically. As many of you know, I am a firm believer in destiny. In my opinion, nothing happens by circumstance. When we are in correct alignment, our steps are ordered. Our failures are as much a part of our journey as our triumphs, our experiences and the people we meet. There was a time when I found myself going through some major transitions in my life. Not to go into great detail, but I found myself at a point where I was forced to rebuild my life. Fortunately, My Creator guided me to this amazing lady and her organization. She was polite, intelligent and caring. I needed that more than they could have ever known at the organization . . . or maybe they did. Sometimes you can just feel when a person is likely an author. Great minds are kindred spirits. When I asked if she was indeed an author, her answer was yes. She gave me a copy of one of her help books on the spot. I later sent copies of my book to her and the staff who assisted me. Given the statistics surrounding not only successful authors of color, but more so female authors, I concluded that she deserved some shine.
Another thing that I believe whole-heartedly is that all children should be represented in children’s books. It’s logical that an underrepresentation of authors of color, means and equal or more pronounced disparity in books for kids. Her book Noah’s House is one brick taken from the wall we have to climb. I hope that we recognize and appreciate this author and her work. We are the keepers of the literary flame . . . support is how we strengthen our ranks! The following is my first interview of what I hope to be many.
Where are you from and how did you get into writing? Baton Rouge, Louisiana! I got into writing after my military career in 2013. Which was when I wrote and published my first book.
How long have you been an author?
I’ve been writing now since 2013, and have published over 5 books!
Do you remember when you actually realized that you were good enough to be a professional? Yes it was after I became an advocate against bullying. I seen how much parents teachers and most adults did not know what bullying actually is and it’s long term effects on children. I then began to write most of my books tackling the issue.
Who are some of your inspirations? My son! He’s 3 years old but he inspires me to never feel a need to quit. He inspires me to be the best version of myself that I can be.
What styles do you write in (fiction, non-fiction, poetry…)? Of these which is your favorite? All of my published books would probably be considered self help, but I also have children books as well that teaches children to embrace those who are deemed as different while also standing up for children who are unable to stand up for themselves; such as children who are special needs.
What themes drive the visions of your work? As a child, I myself, was severely bullied; and because I did not get the assistance I needed as a child, i was diagnosed with severe depression as an adult. My goal and purpose in life is to assist individuals in preventing things such as: depression, anxiety, PTSD, eating disorders and low self esteem, which are ‘some’ of the long-term effects of bullying.
What are the proudest moments in your career as an author? Writing and publishing my second children’s book Noah’s House, which was inspired by my son Noah.
Have you ever found yourself “creatively blocked” as a writer? If so what methods did you use to overcome it? Yes I have! Sometimes the block can last from days to months. I have found that as long as I hold on to the vision of that book or particular writing, it will come to pass.
What was the biggest disappointment in your writing and how did you deal with it? It took a long time for my books to be noticed and I blame myself for that because I didn’t market myself enough. Even as an adult I dealt with the insecurities of being bullied as a child, which caused me to be delayed in my purpose. I am glad to be walking in my purpose now, but maybe, fear caused me to question if I would be good enough. I now know that I am and have always been!
What are your future visions for your work and what do you believe will be the future directions of writing and reading in general? I hope to become well known for my advocacy against bullying here in the Dallas-Fort Worth area and possibly national wide.
What is something that most people do not know about you? That I have a nice singing voice and even have a written song, that only a few people have heard! I am a member of The Fort Worth Chapter of Jack and Jill Incorporated. I am also a United States Navy Veteran of 14 years.
What advice would you give to a new or struggling author? Keep moving forward and always look to further your knowledge on what it is you want to share with the world.

Bio - "I am an Author and Advocate against childhood bullying. I use my creative writings as a tool to empower children, while equipping parents, teachers, and educational staff with the tools needed to be aware of the signs and symptoms that a child may be a victim of bullying, or if a child is in fact, a bully. My focus is spreading awareness of the long-term Mental Health effects that this type of trauma brings; such as anxiety and depression, and how these issues can be reduced or avoided.I have collaborated with schools here in the Fort Worth, TX area, and other organizations to spread awareness. I myself was a victim of severe bullying as a child and now it is my passion to advocate against it."
